Who is an actor?

For a tiny personal database, such as the list of addresses outlined in section, one person normally defines, constructs, and manipulates the database, with no sharing. In large businesses, however, a massive database with hundreds of users is designed, used, and maintained by many people. We name the persons who work with a large database on a daily basis "actors on the scene" in this area. People who labor to maintain the database system environment but are not actively engaged in database contents as part of their everyday employment are considered workers behind the scenes in this area.

There are several types of actors in the DBMS

Database administrator (dba)

In a database environment, the primary resource is the database itself and related software and hardware. Administering these resources is the responsibility of the database administrator (dba). The dba is responsible for authorizing access to the database, coordinating and monitoring its use, and acquiring hardware and software resources as needed. In large organizations, the dBA is assisted by a staff that carries out these functions. Database designers

The final database design must be capable of meeting the data and processing requirements of all user groups. Database designers typically interact with each potential group of users and develop views of the database that meet their requirements.

End-users

End-users are the people whose jobs require access to the database for querying, updating, and generating reports;
